Psalm Chapter 37 - A Psalm of David

Psalm 37: Fret Not Thyself"Fret not thyself." Three times in the first eight verses David repeats it, as if he knows we need to hear it more than once. And perhaps he does know — he is an old man now, writing in the evening of his life. "I have been young, and now am old," he says, with the quiet authority of someone who has watched the drama play out from both ends. He has seen the wicked flourish like a green bay tree, spreading himself in the sunshine, the kind of man who fills the room and owns the headlines. And then, almost comically — "yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not." Not struck down in fury, not brought low in scandal, simply... gone. Like last year's snowdrifts. In the meantime, the meek are to do something peculiar: they are to delight, to trust, to commit, to rest. Not to fight, not to prove, not to envy. Just to wait.
