In December 2022, 21-year-old Liberty Mitchell had held her UK driver's license for less than three weeks. In that time, she'd filmed herself on Snapchat going 100 miles an hour. Then, on a country road in Gloucestershire, she tried to overtake three cars at once at nearly 100 mph and hit a taxi head-on. She killed the taxi driver, Octavian Codreanu, and his passenger — 35-year-old teacher Moyra Whelan, who was on her way to a wedding. Mitchell was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison. This week, a UK appeals court increased her sentence to nine years and three months.
