A new grade. A new teacher. A new everything. For a lot of kids, the last week of summer comes with a stomachache that isn't really a stomachache. It's nerves. In this back-to-school bonus episode of Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin gives kids honest permission to feel nervous, then hands them a simple, repeatable way to deal with it. Anchored in Philippians 4:6-7 and the story of Joshua (who got the most nerve-racking first day in the Bible when God handed him Moses's job), this episode walks kids through naming their worries, handing each one to God with thanks, and walking in to find one friendly face. The promise of the verse is the whole point: when you give God the worry, He guards you with a peace that doesn't even make sense. Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7 (CSB) | Supporting: Joshua 1:9 PARENT ACTION STEP The night before the first day (or the night before anything new), sit with your kid and do step two together: have them name each worry out loud, and pray over each one by name, adding a thank-you. You're not just calming them for one morning. You're teaching them the lifelong pattern: name it, hand it to God, walk in with His peace. QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR CHILD 1. What's one thing you're nervous about for this school year? Say it out loud. 2. What's one thing you're actually excited about? 3. Philippians 4:6-7 says to hand God your worries with a thank-you. Why do you think the thank-you part matters? 4. Joshua got a brand-new, scary job, and God told him, "I'm with you wherever you go." How does it help to know God is already in your new classroom? 5. What's the difference between being nervous and something actually being wrong? 6. Which step feels most doable: naming the worries, handing them to God, or finding one friendly face? 7. Who is someone else who might be nervous on the first day? What could you do to help them? SIGNS TO WATCH FOR (PARENTS) - Stomachaches, headaches, or trouble sleeping in the days before school with no medical cause. - More clinginess, irritability, or meltdowns than usual as the start date gets close. - Repeated what-if questions about the new teacher, class, or schedule. - Avoiding talk about school altogether, or insisting they "don't care" about going back. Hey Carpool Crew, Tomorrow's a big day. A brand-new year, a fresh start, and that excited-nervous swirl that comes the night before, with the backpack already packed by the door. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Deuteronomy 31:6, where God says be strong and courageous, because He goes with you and will not leave you. Notice why God says be brave. Not because the day will be easy, but because He's going ahead into every part of it. Your kid isn't walking into tomorrow alone, hoping it goes okay. God is already there. This Friday episode hands kids three things to try this week: pray one honest sentence the night before and hand the worry to God, whisper a quick prayer before walking in to be brave, and ask the heart question, do I think I have to face tomorrow alone, or do I believe God's already there? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together. Today's One Thing: You can be brave on the first day because God goes ahead of you. https://carpoolingwithjesus.com Download the ROAD TRIP game: https://apple.co/4xFb21N Subscribe: https://carpoolingwithjesus.com/cwj-plus GET INVOLVED Request Free Stickers: https://bit.ly/CarpoolingStickers Book a Shout Out: https://bit.ly/booktheshoutout Submit a Question from the Backseat: https://bit.ly/AskTheBackseat CARPOOLING WITH JESUS COMMUNITY Facebook Group: https://bit.ly/CPWJFB YouTube Channel: https://bit.ly/YoutubeCPWJ Instagram: https://bit.ly/carpooling-insta Christian podcast for kids, Kids devotional podcast, Daily devotional for kids, Daily Christian podcast for children, Bible devotional for kids, Kids Christian podcast, Christian family podcast, Family faith podcast, Christian parenting, Christian family devotional, Bible stories for kids, Bible lessons for kids, Scripture for kids, Learning about Jesus, Following Jesus, Faith-building for kids, Christian character for kids, Biblical values for children, Christian discipleship for kids, Raising kids to follow Jesus, Christian resources for families, Honesty for kids, Kindness for kids, Courage for kids, Forgiveness for kids, Obedience for kids, Gratitude for kids, Friendship for kids, Trusting God, Christian encouragement for kids, Carpooling with Jesus, Christian audio devotional, Daily Bible podcast for kids, Family devotions, Summer devotions for families, School commute podcast, Car rides with kids

Hey Carpool Crew, A new year is almost here, and everybody's thinking about being smart and doing well. But there's one skill that makes a kid better at almost everything, and hardly anybody talks about it: listening. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens James 1:19, where God says everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Notice the order. Quick to listen comes first. When a kid really listens, people feel loved, friends trust them more, and they even hear God better, because hearing Him starts with getting quiet and paying attention. This Thursday episode hands kids three things to try this week: set down whatever's in your hands and listen all the way to the end, whisper a quick morning prayer to be quick to listen, and ask the heart question, am I waiting for my turn to talk, or am I really hearing people? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together. Today's One Thing: Being quick to listen is a superpower God wants to grow in you. Hey Carpool Crew, A whole new year is almost here, and that can feel huge to a kid. Be better, try harder, do everything right. It's too much to aim at all at once, and most of it slips away by the second week. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Philippians 3:14, where Paul aimed at one goal and kept pressing toward it. Your kid doesn't have to fix everything this year. They just need one good word to aim at, picked with God, like brave, kind, honest, or steady. One word is something a kid can remember on the hardest day. This Wednesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: ask God for one word and write it where you'll see it, whisper a quick prayer each morning to aim at it, and ask the heart question, am I trying to fix everything at once, or will I trust God with one good word at a time? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together. Today's One Thing: Pick one word with God to aim at all year long. Hey Carpool Crew, Most kids know Daniel because of the lions. But long before the lions' den, Daniel was a teenager who got taken from his home. Today on Carpooling with Heroes of the Bible, Pastor Justin starts a brand-new five-episode journey with Daniel by going back to the very beginning, when King Nebuchadnezzar conquered Jerusalem and marched Daniel and his three friends hundreds of miles to Babylon. Babylon tried to erase everything about them, even giving them new names to push God out. But Daniel learned the truth that held him steady for the rest of his life: God had not stayed back in Jerusalem. God went to Babylon too. Daniel had been taken from his home, but he had not been taken from his God. This episode is for every kid who has ever felt dropped somewhere new and scary, a new school, a new house, a back-and-forth between two homes, a new team where they knew no one. About 10 minutes, kid-friendly, with a real-life takeaway parents can talk through on the drive. Today's One Thing: You can be dropped somewhere new and scary and still belong to God. He goes where you go. Scripture: Daniel 1:6 (CSB) The arc: Episode 1: Taken From Home Episode 2: The Food Test (Who You Are When No One's Watching) Episode 3: The Law Against Praying Episode 4: A Night in the Lions' Den Episode 5: The King Who Praised God Everything is on our Website https://carpoolingwithjesus.com Subscribe https://carpoolingwithjesus.com/cwj-plus Download the ROAD TRIP game https://apple.co/4xFb21N GET INVOLVED Request Free Stickers: https://carpoolingwithjesus.com/stickers Book a Shout Out: https://carpoolingwithjesus.com/shoutout Submit a Question from the Backseat: https://carpoolingwithjesus.com/ask CARPOOLING WITH JESUS COMMUNITY • Facebook Group: https://bit.ly/CPWJFB • YouTube Channel: https://bit.ly/YoutubeCPWJ • Instagram: https://bit.ly/carpooling-insta Christian podcast for kids, Kids devotional podcast, Daily devotional for kids, Daily Christian podcast for children, Bible devotional for kids, Kids Christian podcast, Christian family podcast, Family faith podcast, Christian parenting, Christian family devotional, Bible stories for kids, Bible lessons for kids, Scripture for kids, Learning about Jesus, Following Jesus, Faith-building for kids, Christian character for kids, Biblical values for children, Christian discipleship for kids, Raising kids to follow Jesus, Christian resources for families, Honesty for kids, Kindness for kids, Courage for kids, Forgiveness for kids, Obedience for kids, Gratitude for kids, Friendship for kids, Trusting God, Christian encouragement for kids, Carpooling with Jesus, Christian audio devotional, Daily Bible podcast for kids, Family devotions, Summer devotions for families, School commute podcast, Car rides with kids
Hey Carpool Crew, There's something about a brand-new empty backpack. It's not full of anything yet. It's just sitting there, full of a whole year that hasn't happened. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Psalm 32:8, where God promises to instruct us, show us the way, and keep His eye on us. Before a single day of the year happens, God is already promising to lead a kid through it. That empty backpack is a perfect picture of a year your kid can hand straight to God before it even starts. This Tuesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: pray out loud over the empty backpack, whisper a quick prayer when the new year feels scary, and ask the heart question, do I think I have to carry this whole year alone, or will I let God lead it? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together. Today's One Thing: Hand God your empty backpack and ask Him to lead the new year. Hey Carpool Crew, Summer's almost done, and a new year is right around the corner. Here's something most kids never realize: they get a say in what kind of friend they're going to be this year. It's not just something that happens to them. It's something they can decide. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Proverbs 27:17, where iron sharpens iron. The right kind of friend doesn't just hang around, they make each other better. Your kid isn't just looking for good friends this year. They get to be one, the kid who walks over to the one who's left out and says, come sit with us. This Monday episode hands kids three things to try this week: decide out loud one kind of friend you want to be, whisper a quick prayer to see who needs a friend, and ask the heart question, am I just looking for good friends, or am I willing to be one? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together. Today's One Thing: You get to choose what kind of friend you'll be this school year.
