We are officially wrapped on our rookie season! With the World Series in the books and the Milwaukee Brewers crowned champions, we're closing out Season 1 with a full MLB postseason recap, a look back at the highs (and questionable lows), and plenty of opinions along the way. From the Brewers' championship run and some of the best player storylines to the moments that had us questioning baseball's rules (looking at you, check swings), we're unpacking what made this postseason memorable. We're also bringing you one last round of Hot or Just Talented?, featuring Brewers William Contreras and Aaron Ashby, a Jays speed round profiling George Springer, Shane Bieber and Miles Straw, and some rapid-fire questions. We'll also get into the Blue Jays' offseason, free agency, roster decisions and what the team might need to make another run. And, of course, there's one final Boyfriend of the Week before the curtain falls.More than anything, this episode is a celebration of a first season filled with baseball, questionable crushes, unexpected lessons and a whole lot of laughs. We're reflecting on what this podcast has meant to us, the community that's grown around it, and why there's more than one way to be a sports fan. Because we've always believed you can know baseball and also know good face (and good ass). Our rookie season may be over, but we'll be back when baseball returns. See you at spring training!
The Blue Jays are out, and somehow… we’re still watching baseball? In Episode 13, we come to terms with the deeply unsettling realization that we may now be actual baseball fans. We pick our postseason allegiances (go White Sox! go Padres!), celebrate our one-year anniversary of no longer being bandwagon fans, revel in Yankee and Dodger suffering, and check in on what the Jays are doing with all their newfound free time. Spoiler: it involves Hobby Lobby, playhouses, In-N-Out, and an ashram. For Hot or Just Talented?, we investigate Colin Jost and Mariners pitcher Brian Woo before being completely derailed by a photo of Addison Barger. Then we head to brunch to discuss The Betrayal of Shohei Ohtani, the truly bananas gambling scandal involving Shohei and his former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara. Did Ippei betray Shohei? Did Shohei know more than he let on? Were they secretly lovers? We have absolutely no evidence for that last theory, which has never stopped us before.Plus, we discuss Taylor Swift, our go-to karaoke songs, how we’d orchestrate our own extremely attention-seeking retirements from baseball, and our Boyfriends of the Week — including one who is immediately upgraded to Boyfriend of the Century. The Jays may be done for the season but there's plenty of good vibes to keep us going.
We are back with Episode 12! This episode finds us exactly where every Blue Jays fan wants to be: somewhere between resignation, delusion and the tiny voice whispering, “but what if?” With the Jays’ season hanging by a thread, we unpack the emotional damage of being a baseball fan, debate whether last year was an anomaly, and reflect on what we've actually learned after a season of Baseless, including the fact that baseball is basically chess, players can absolutely be referred to by their first names, and there will always be hot men to carry us through the dark times. Then we get into Hot or Just Talented?, which brings us former Blue Jay Kevin Pillar and Lia’s newest Law & Order crush, Luke Kirby, before we dive into the cheating scandal segment everyone thought they were getting in a previous episode: actual infidelity. From the absolutely unhinged 1973 Yankees wife swap to Babe Ruth’s extracurricular activities and some more modern baseball relationship drama, there is… a lot to unpack. Plus, rapid-fire questions tackle the best TV boyfriends of all time, Crocs vs. jerseys, travel no-gos and the most Baseless sentence possible: “I don’t know much about baseball, but I do know hot men.” And with Boyfriends of the Week Brett Bateman and Josh Smith, at least the season still has something worth watching.
The Blue Jays’ playoff hopes are hanging by a thread, Lindsay isn’t sleeping, and we’re officially wondering whether this relationship is becoming toxic. After a rough series against the Rangers, we’re joined by casual Jays fan Joanna and her dad Cliff, a diehard fan who’s been cheering for the team since their very first season , to talk about what went wrong, whether there’s still reason to believe, and why being a baseball fan sometimes requires a lot of patience.Cliff takes us through nearly 50 years of Jays fandom — from $2 tickets at Exhibition Stadium and sneaking Canadian Club into games to Bautista’s bat flip and the heartbreak of last season. Plus, we name our Boyfriends of the Series, celebrate the bullpen for finally giving us something to feel good about, and get some much-needed perspective from a lifelong fan: baseball is a long game, there’s always another season, and apparently… Kevin Gausman is coming back. Cliff has spoken.
The Jays’ series against the Tigers took years off our lives, but somehow, we’re still here. After two brutal losses, including one genuine heartbreaker and one game so miserable we could barely watch, the Jays finally gave us something to celebrate with a much-needed win in Game 3. With nine games left and Toronto just 1.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot, we attempt to understand the playoff math, reassess our confidence levels and reveal exactly how we cope when watching the Jays becomes too stressful. Spoiler: there’s stress eating, pacing and occasionally abandoning the game entirely for the garden.Lia’s brother Nick joins us and gets immediately dragged into our nonsense. We talk Kazuma Okamoto’s heroics, Josh Smith’s very hot defence, Nathan Lukes quietly getting it done and the players who hurt us most. Plus, we introduce Ex-Boyfriend of the Series, because after these three games, Boyfriend of the Series simply wasn’t enough.
The Jays are back, baby! After a rough stretch, Toronto took two of three from the Orioles, and gave us plenty to talk about. We’re joined by Melly, aka the woman who calls the Orioles the “Areolas,” to break down the series, Dylan Cease’s absolutely unhinged defensive skills, the bullpen coming through, and Brett Bateman’s breakout weekend. But let’s be honest: VLADDY FINALLY HIT A HOME RUN AT HOME. Cue the champagne, the fireworks and what felt like a Game 7 celebration. We’re talking Vladdy’s $500-million contract, the fans booing him, his teammates having his back, and whether this is finally the start of his comeback. Plus, sliding mittens, baseball heckles, and the most important question of all: where are we on the playoff panic scale?
The Jays may have lost the series to the Athletics, but we refuse to let that kill the vibes. In this episode of Baseless in 10+, we recap a disappointing three-game series that included a heartbreaking Game 1 comeback that fell just short, a much-needed Game 2 win and an absolutely brutal Game 3 shutout. We’re joined by baseball fan (and style icon) Johanna and our resident baseball explainer Tristan, who help us make sense of the pitching situation, the nine-game road trip, the Sacramento heat, the playoff picture and whether we should be panicking about the rotation. Then, because we are still Baseless, we get into the important stuff: F*ck, Marry, Kill with Brett Bateman, Dylan Cease and George Springer, our Boyfriend of the Series picks, and Captain Kirk’s very impressive catcher squat. Most importantly, we get a much-needed reminder that despite the heartbreak, there are still meaningful baseball games ahead.
The Jays are officially entering playoff-panic territory, and we are HERE FOR IT. In this episode, we discuss how our lives have been consumed by all things Blue Jays and catch up on all the important stuff: Ernie is engaged, Brett Bateman is apparently a meteorologist, Kirk is hitting bombs AND stealing bases, and Vladdy is (kind of) finding his groove. We also make a few overdue apologies, including one to Cam Neely for our Dumb and Dumber misinformation. Priorities. Then we attempt to make sense of the playoffs in Explain It to Me Like I’m at Brunch, breaking down wild cards, games back, magic numbers, elimination numbers and why we are suddenly scoreboard-watching other teams like our lives depend on it. Plus: Hot or Just Talented? featuring Bobby Witt Jr. and Louis Varland, playoff beards, our most irrational Jays beliefs, and picks for Boyfriends of the Week. Spoiler: Kirk and Brett Bateman have officially stolen our hearts. We’re stressed, we’re obsessed, and we’re going all in. Also, don't miss our Baseless in 10+ episodes where we recap each Blue Jays series in September alongside our special guests.LET’S GO JAYS.
