House Passes Spending Bills, Bertha Makes Landfall, Trump's New Iran Threat, US-Saudi Nuclear Deal

Today on America in the MorningHouse GOP Passes Spending Bills In Washington, the House is scheduled to adjourn today for a five-week recess.  Republican leaders are feeling good about several big bills that have passed in their chamber on Wednesday, but questions remain as to how they will proceed in the Senate.   Details from correspondent Rich Johnson.   Bertha Makes Landfall While it does not have hurricane force winds, Tropical Storm Bertha made landfall Wednesday afternoon along the Gulf Coast in Louisiana, bringing drenching rain and some flooding along with power outages as Bertha tracks into Texas.  Correspondent Clayton Neville reports.   West Virginia Floods The National Guard has been activated in West Virginia following a massive rain storm that caused dozens of water rescues, left roads under water, and caused heavy damage.  The details from correspondent Katie Clark.   Maduro In Court The former leader of Venezuela and his wife appeared in Federal court in New York City.  Correspondent Julie Walker reports a trial date is set for Nicolás Maduro's US drug trafficking case.   Correspondents Dinner Redo The White House Correspondents Association faces tensions as it tries again this week to hold its annual dinner including President Trump, this time at a new location.  Washington correspondent Sagar Meghani reports.   Arizona Primary Results President Trump took a victory lap Wednesday after his endorsed candidate won the GOP primary for governor in Arizona.  Correspondent Mike Hempen reports that Andy Biggs, who voted to overturn the 2020 election results in Congress, overwhelming beat his challenger to face current Governor Katie Hobbs in November.   Trump On Iran On the day when President Trump traveled to Delaware for the dignified transfer of the remains of four US soldiers killed in the Middle East in the past week, he is making clear that despite nightly bombardment from the United States, Iran is still not ready to come to the bargaining table, and the president ratcheted up the rhetoric saying any ships in the Strait of Hormuz fired upon by Iran will have the US target Iranian civilian infrastructure.  Washington correspondent Sagar Meghani reports.   Mamdani Backtracks Anger against Zohran Mamdani is now coming from some of his key supporters after the New York City Mayor did an about-face and said he will not arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he comes to New York as he recently suggested he would.  Correspondent Julie Walker reports Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, speaking on Fox News, says Mamdani is turning his back on world leaders who actually have committed crimes against their own citizens.   Nolan Wells Autopsy An autopsy commissioned by the family of Nolan Wells in Mississippi now leaves more questions than answers as to exactly what happened to the teenager left behind during a boat trip with friends.  Correspondent Jennifer King reports that while doctors could not make an exact determination as to what caused the death of the 18-year-old, they could not rule out foul play.   Saudi Arabia Nuclear Power In what’s being called a big win for Saudi Arabia, the kingdom and the Trump administration reached a landmark agreement to provide the Saudis with a civilian nuclear program and potentially open the door to uranium enrichment on its territory. Bridge Ceremony Canceled A planned joint ceremony on Friday between the U.S. and Canada marking the opening of the much anticipated Gordie Howe International Bridge has been canceled over tariffs.  Correspondent Clayton Neville reports.   Massachusetts Abortion Bill The Massachusetts House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday that would allow doctors to decide on later-term abortions without the current list of exceptions, sparking debate among lawmakers.  Learn more about your ad choices.
