Inspired by the painting by Edvard Munch, Love and Pain is about a Woman who seeks to comfort a grieving Man. The Man resists…at first. This melodrama is also partly inspired by a song by Gerard McMahon. Can you spot the lyrics? Munch created several versions of Love and Pain between 1893-1895 and the work was frequently called “Vampire” throughout the years, though that wasn’t the original title. Each version has its own charms, but I’m partial to the 1895 version which will serve as the cover art for this story. The Woman was performed by S.H.
